Did Steinbeck correctly depict agricultural, migrant life of America?

If so, why have the societal and moral problems illustrated in his literature not been resolved in today's society? Thanks for any input in advance. Also, this information is for a middle schooler/early high school age student. Trying to get him some help started on a paper he has to write. Thanks.
