I think i messed up big time. How can i turn this around?

I messed up big time. I really like this guy. He moved out recently and I feared not ever seeing him again. I contacted him by email, by fate and through a distant friend. We both discovered that we had ended our relationships with other people. But he has never asked to hangout or we haven't exchanged numbers, just a few emails. He kinda hinted that he come and visit a buddy in the building and i hinted for him to visit me one day and nothing. So I take it he isn't interested. So I told him it was a mistake contacting him. I regret it. I really like the guy and I want to spend time wih him. I am hoping he will tell me he wants to keep in touch. I just don't know what to do. I really want this guy to be a part of my life but I don't know how to tell him. He is a really nice guy but I don't know if he is interested? He would always wave and smile and say hi whenever he saw me and he seemed okay with me emailing him. How do i fix this?
